Biography
Jennifer (Ginger) Alford is currently Clinical Professor at the SMU Lyle School of Engineering in Dallas, TX. She holds a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Texas in Austin, a M.S. in computer science and engineering from Texas A & M University, and a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Iowa. She worked as a computer scientist in the area of image processing and graphics for over two decades, including developing software and consulting for intellectual property attorneys. Her projects have ranged from augmented reality using geo-located data rendered on streaming imagery to device-driver level code for displays and printers that incorporate human psychophysical models to optimize perceptual visual quality of output. Recent work in education has focused on working with K-12 schools and museums to develop educational programs in computer science and in animatronics, an interdisciplinary robotics program based in a humanities curriculum. She also leads professional development workshops for teachers in computer science.

Active with the professional computing organizations Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and IEEE professional organizations, she serves as Chair of the ACM SIGGRAPH Education Committee, General Submissions Chair for the 2019 and 2020 SIGGRAPH Conference Committees and is on the Editorial Board of the IEEE Computer Graphics and Application Magazine. She has served on several juries and as a peer reviewer and guest editor for several journals.
